scalini 84 stufen

In 2000 the artists Peter Kaser and Hans Winkler define a location at Brenner as a place of art. The action will officially come to an end in 2007 in the form of a publication designed by Lupo Burtscher. Until then, guest projects will be organised there, which give the socio-political reality and the imagined “Brenner” a creative framework, whilst at the same time initiating a critical reflection.

The art site is located at a bunker with stairs and surrounding area. The accompanying book scalini 84 stufen is characterised by its special cover: Based on a relief printing process, giving tactile and visual meaning indicated by the steps in the title of the work. The design, with its slightly shifted levels, further underlines this effect.

On the inside, the works undertaken over the years are presented in the form of texts and pictures. The space within the book is generously sized, with empty spaces allowing room to breathe. Texts of the organizers and project supervisors can be found in a small extra booklet on fine paper located in the hinged envelope. In addition, there is an audio CD in the appendix. The book was nominated for the European Design Awards.
