Jointly illustrated by Simone Berti and Alessandro Sarra, Laracamallo is the fifth book by les cerises – a publishing house co-founded by Angelika Burtscher and Daniele Lupo with Agnese and Cecilia Canziani. This silent book is the story of an encounter not only between two different painting styles, but also between two different creatures who will show how even two apparently distant worlds can come into contact, despite obstacles and diversities. The book was designed by Lupo Burtscher.
Through alternation and blending of figurative and abstract signs, Laracamallo merges the styles of two artists and illustrators: that of Simone Berti – visual artist whose work is characterised by the representation of human, animal and inanimate figures on a white background, against which they stand out enigmatically – and that of Alessandro Sarra – abstract painter whose works on canvas represent a reflection on painting as time that becomes space and language.
les cerises
les cerises is a publishing project of silent books commissioned to artists, designers, architects, who are invited to make a children’s book for the first time. The books are published as limited editions. Form, material and size are each time discussed with the author, so that they can be interpreted and narrated by children themselves – and by adults, too. The reader is asked to add their own words to the visual stories, thus making them every time different, ever-changing, new, and multilingual.
