Urban Node – Laboratory of Memory

Urban Node is a permanent, constantly updatable archive for Gallo Matese, a small inland village between Naples and Rome. The corresponding catalogue, edited by paesesaggio workgroup, documents the installation and activation of the archive as well as other art initiatives created around the project.

Gallo Matese, once a flourishing village, has been facing significant emigration since the 1960s. For the current residents and emigrants, who return only in the summer, a collective “laboratory of memory” has been set up in the parish hall. It consisted of both the acquisition of technical resources and of displays, with which history in the form of photos, narratives, films, etc. could be recorded, discussed and updated. These features of the premises were complemented by workshops and symbolic actions, which involved multiple age groups in the project.
