Issue number 31
The cover of Progetto grafico 31 shows Everyone Gets Lighter | All!, a performance aimed at sharing and spreading an invented body language. Created with an alphabet of gestures, the words make up a sort of dance that involves the body’s communicative and choreographic potential. The body becomes a poetic and political opportunity for communication. The artistic collective Kinkaleri, originator of the performance, produces experimental drama, research into movement, visual installations, sound material and performances. To complete the project, Giacomo Covacich and Andrea Codolo at graphic design studio Bruno developed the K-Font through which the entire body alphabet was digitalised (punctuation included). This typeface, combined with the images of the cover designs, is taken up in the section covers that subdivide Progetto grafico 31 into three themed areas: representations, processes and education. Laid out on a different background compared with the rest of the magazine, the central insert is dedicated to processes, and presents the work of five designers and studios plus a critical text by Giovanni Anceschi on the relationship between art, design and movement practices.
The typeface used for the cover, titles and teasers is Korpus, designed by the Swiss foundry Binnenland. Korpus has been created from the digital translation of movable type: imperfections, blurring and small errors make the initial physical body of the typeface evident.
